Oct. 6 -- Fremont struck back at bad Internet service Tuesday night, becoming the first city in America to impose minimum standards on a high-speed cable Internet provider.
The 4-0 vote by the Fremont City Council came after months of complaints from residents about shoddy service from AT&T@Home, a leading cable Internet provider.
AT&T provides cable television service in most Peninsula communities and recently began offering high-speed Internet access over those wires in a handful of them.
"The city of Fremont can pat itself on the back to be...the first city in the U.S. to adopt customer service standards," said Dan Calic, a frustrated @Home customer who led the drive for the changes.
