Resort Developer's Lawsuit Enters New Phase in Charleston, S.C., Court.

Oct. 13 -- Seeking $750 million in damages, Landmark Land Inc. began the restitution phase of its long-running legal battle with the U.S. government Tuesday in Charleston.
"It's all a matter of how much money, as my wife would say," said Gerald C. Barton, the Oklahoma-born chairman of Landmark and the driving force behind what once had been among the nation's top resort developers.
Attorneys from both sides presented opening arguments before U.S. Court of Federal Claims Judge Robert H. Hodges Jr., who will fix the damages from a 1997 decision that concluded the government had breached a contract with Landmark involving the sale of two Louisiana savings banks.
