Oct. 16 -- ENERGY UNIT HELPS BOOST PROFIT: FPL Group (FPL) reported higher third-quarter profits, with most of its earnings growth coming from its FPL Energy subsidiary.
FPL Group, parent of Florida Power & Light, said profits at the utility rose slightly, from $263 million to $264 million. But FPL Energy, which builds power-generating plants outside of Florida, saw its profits rise from $18 million in the third quarter of 1998 to $27 million this year.
Sales fell in the quarter because of a rate cut that took effect during the second quarter.
