Two Largest Hospital Systems in Dallas Area Drop Plan to Merge.

Nov. 2 -- The region's two largest nonprofit hospital systems called off their planned merger Monday, saying fundamental changes in the health-care industry required them to focus on internal operations.

The merger's collapse comes less than one week after Baylor Health Care System and Texas Health Resources agreed to extend the timetable to complete their alliance until March. The proposed marriage, announced in January, would have created the largest hospital system in Texas.
