Nov. 4 -- Firstar Corp. was named the second-leading stock in the latest edition of "The Best Stocks to Own in America" published by Dearborn, a Kaplan Professional company.
Also, Firstar was ranked highest of the 11 banking and financing firms on the list.
Companies were ranked by earnings-per-share growth, stock growth, dividends, consistency and shareholder perks. Stock growth was judged on a 10-year performance, and earnings and dividend growth were rated on the past five years. Consistency was measured as annual earnings gains over 10 years.
Best-selling author Gene Walden reviewed more than 2,000 major national companies for inclusion in the sixth edition of the book.
