Unrestricted Credit-Card Marketing Hurts College Students, Group Says.

Nov. 16 -- PEORIA, Ill. -- Jason Flagg is a student at Bradley University who feels he's already gotten an education.

Flagg has learned about credit cards in a lesson that has come outside of class.

Now a junior, Flagg ran up bills totaling almost $4,000 before seeking the help of a credit counselor earlier this year.

"The average starting salary for a college graduate is $24,000. Since the average graduate owes $14,000 in college loans, what they don't need is another credit card," said Amber Harmon of Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Central Illinois, 719 Main St.
