Nov. 24 -- INDIANAPOLIS -- Two Southern Indiana manufacturers said this week they plan to lay off a combined 573 workers.
Otis Elevator said it would cut 223 jobs at its Bloomington factory next year. The latest layoffs come on top of 165 Bloomington jobs that Otis said it would cut in March.
And Hillenbrand Industries Inc. said it would lay off 350 employees over the next nine months, the largest one-time job cutback ever for the Batesville company.
Hillenbrand wouldn't disclose how many of the layoffs would occur among its 4,000 Batesville-area employees.
Hillenbrand's job losses will be scattered among its worldwide hospital equipment work force of 6,600, not just those in Indiana....
