Dec. 2 -- So you miss the old days, when AT&T supplied the phone and everything behind it?

Now "all-distance" service is making a comeback.

Sixteen years after the Bell breakup, AT&T is again selling local phone service in New York, part of an explosion of choices that has ignited since Nov. 1.

AT&T announced Wednesday its "Local One Rate" service will be available by Jan. 1 in all areas of the state served by Bell Atlantic.

"We will begin marketing aggressively and in mass this weekend," said Robert Aquilina, president for Eastern region consumer markets.

The package of local and long-distance features costs $24.90 for 75 hours of local calls, or $27.90 outside of metropolitan...
