Doctors at Sacramento, Calif., Hospital See Dearth of `Specialty Patients'.

Dec. 7 -- Six years after south Sacramento's Methodist Hospital merged with Mercy Healthcare Sacramento, doctors at the community hospital say Mercy hasn't lived up to its promises and are calling for Methodist to break free.

At the heart of the doctors' complaints is what they say is the paltry flow of profit-producing specialty patients through the 178-bed Methodist Hospital.

Most specialty patients who get their care at Mercy hospitals are seen at either of the seven-hospital system's main surgical centers: Mercy General Hospital and Mercy San Juan.
