Kmart to Announce Alliance with Internet Search Engine Yahoo.

Dec. 15 -- Kmart Corp. and the creator of the most popular site in all of cyberspace are expected to announce a surprising new alliance today that will offer consumers free access to the Internet.
If the rumored venture with Yahoo Inc. is successful, it could provide consumers with a cheap, new alternative for going on-line, and turn the Troy-based retailer into an e-commerce powerhouse by funneling millions of shoppers through Web sites where it can sell them stuff.
Kmart officials announced Tuesday that a press conference will take place today at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. The topic: a new "Internet strategy." No other details were available.
