Dec. 27--There's no growth without growing pains. Just ask Keith Hughes, chairman and chief executive officer of Associates First Capital Corp.

The Irving-based financial services company nearly doubled its workforce in the past two years, a jump from 17,000 to 33,000 employees thanks to a number of acquisitions.

That expansion has meant integrating Associates' new holdings, toting a heavier bill for inoculating its computers against the year 2000 glitch, and continuing a push into overseas markets.

Mr. Hughes covered those topics and others in a recent interview with Dallas Morning News business editors and reporters.
