Dec. 16 -- JAPAN'S TELECOMS INDUSTRY LOOKS SET FOR MORE consolidation with reports of the merger of major players KDD, DDI, and the Toyota-controlled mobiles operator IDO.
The companies, which last week denied speculation they were heading for a fully-fledged merger, will hold a press conference in Tokyo today to outline their plans. Tokyo reports claim the companies will merge by 1 October next year.
Shares in KDD and DDI, the only listed members of the trio, have been climbing over the past week on the rumours, and made more gains today as the market awaited the announcement.
