VIEW FROM THE TOP: Amazon.com CEO Says Don't Worry about Stock Prices.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 2--Workers and managers at Internet startups have to be wary of becoming obsessed with the performance of their company's stock, says Jeff Bezos, chairman and chief executive of Amazon.com.
Mr. Bezos, 35, who recently was named Person of the Year by Time magazine, said he encourages his employees, many of whom have stock options, to focus on Amazon's long-term success.
"It's very tempting to watch the stock market," he said. "I discourage them from doing that on a daily basis."
Mr. Bezos visited with editors and reporters from The Dallas Morning News' Business section in late December.
