American Plans Commuter Service to Worcester, Mass., Airport.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 6--As the Massachusetts Port Authority prepares to take over operation of Worcester Airport this month, it received some good news regarding the airport nobody wants to fly to: American Airlines is scheduled to begin commuter service to New York from Worcester in March.

Aviation sources said American Airlines will begin flying three flights per day from Worcester to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport as early as March 1. The airline's regional carrier, American Eagle, is expected to use Saab 340 turboprop aircraft that seat 32 passengers.

One source said American sees the flights attracting passengers flying to New York and passengers connecting to international flights from JFK.
