IBM to Spin Off Morrisville, N.C.-Based Home-Networking Unit.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 7--MORRISVILLE, N.C.--IBM made it official Thursday. Big Blue will spin off its home networking division to create a new company called Home Director Inc.
Home Director will be private, funded by venture capital from Spencer Trask Intellectual Capital Co. Of Home Director's 90 employees, about 65 will be based in offices on Aviation Parkway in Morrisville. The rest are part of the sales staff, which will be spread around the country.
As expected, Mary Walker, former general manager of IBM's home networking division, will be chief executive officer of the new company. Leading a start-up with be a new experience for Walker after 17 years with a company that employs about 14,000 people in the Triangle alone. But she said she has worked with IBM...
