Jan. 10--WASHINGTON--SEC TACKLES TECH WORLD AS IT EXPANDS FRAUD WATCH EFFORTS: It is a dangerous world out there.
For starters, consider the case of "Tokyo Joe." The South Korean immigrant, who ran a chain of burrito restaurants in New York and is legally known as Yun Soo Oh Park, found himself the target of a civil fraud charges filed last week by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Mr. Park operated a Web site and charged visitors up to $200 a month to hear his stock picks. The SEC charged that Mr. Park, who operated under the online screen names TokyoJoe and TokyoMex, used his popularity on the Internet to pocket more than $1 million in fees by pumping up the price of stocks just before he sold them and misled his followers about his performance...
