Jan. 12--DETROIT--Stars of the show? Maybe the Mercedes Vision SLA roadster or the Hummer H2 or the Chevy SSR pickup?
Nope. It's the stages and not what's resting on them that are the buzz of this year's North American International Auto Show.
It started in 1999 when Ford put all of its brands together in a huge exhibit connected by a second-story bridge that puts visitors above the action -- and awfully close to the bright lights atop Cobo Hall where the Detroit auto show is held.
But in the Motor City, where the game of top-that is an art form, General Motors is the king in 2000. Its exhibit, billed as the GM Experience, is nearly as big as the San Jose International Auto Show held last week at the Convention Center. It cost the company $15...
