Investment Strategist Predicts Fed Will Increase Rates More Than Expected.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 14--The Federal Reserve might raise rates more aggressively this year than stock market analysts are expecting, a nationally known investment strategist predicted Thursday during a speech in Buffalo.
Thomas Gallagher, the Washington bureau chief of International Strategy & Investment and and a frequent panelist on the television show "Wall Street Week," also presented data indicating that the Federal Reserve is not shy about raising or lowering rates in election years.
In a speech sponsored by the Buffalo Society of Security Analysts, Gallagher told about 150 business leaders he thinks federal monetary policies will be "mildly hawkish," claiming regulators continue to worry that the nation's tight labor market will drive up inflation.
