Owensboro, Ky., Tornado Victims Urges to Use Caution with Contractors.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 5--Better Business Bureau President Charlie Mattingly suggests using caution when hiring a contractor to make repairs. Mattingly, of the BBB in Louisville, which covers 44 Kentucky counties including those in the Owensboro area, said residents here should be wary of out-of-town "storm chasers."

"There are folks who are in the business of following major storms and pitching jobs and then ripping people off," he said. In addition, he made the following recommendations for dealing with contractors: n If possible, use a contractor you know and trust.

-- Be wary of out-of-town contractors, since even honest ones won't be around to handle complaints that might arise after the work is completed.
