Jan. 26--RALEIGH, N.C.--A group of boxy office buildings on Six Forks Road in North Raleigh is the fortress from which IBM battles for dominance of the worldwide market for retail sales technology.
Inside, engineers and product managers collaborate on new innovations, test prototypes and bring in customers to demonstrate their wares. They even manufacture their own dust to test retail systems under real-life conditions.
This week, Big Blue is out in force at the National Retail Federation trade show in New York. On display are a handful of the new products and systems that might change the way consumers shop in the first decade of the 21st century.
