San Luis Obispo, Calif., Honda Dealer Offers Hybrid Gas-Electric Cars.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 26--SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.--In February and March, Sunset Honda in San Luis Obispo expects to take delivery of six hybrid gas-electric Honda Insight cars.
The Insight is the first such hybrid car to be sold in the United States. It is also the first car to be endorsed by the Sierra Club.
The car generates electricity when the brakes are applied. This energy is then released when accelerating. As a result, the car gets more than 70 miles to a gallon of gas and emits few pollutants.
"It is capable of more than 700 miles on one fill-up," said Don Woodward, Sunset's general sales manager.
The dealership expects to get three of the Insights in February and another three in March. The price is $20,415.
