Feb. 8--Sharon Hoffman-Manning's job performance is put to the test every time a consumer opens a box of Tide.

The manager of Procter & Gamble's Augusta powdered soap plant reports to corporate headquarters in Cincinnati, but consumers buying the company's laundry detergents are her ultimate judges.

Does the box have a scoop inside? Is the powder clumpy? Does it smell good? Does it make dirty socks white again?

To them, if anything is amiss in the equation, Ms. Hoffman-Manning isn't doing her job.

And there are a lot of consumers to keep satisfied. The Augusta detergent plant supplies the entire Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions with Tide, Bold, Gain, Cheer and P&G's other laundry brands.

    Give me a break, the nut that said the manager isn't doing her job because a question, should get his socks dirty. My god man there are all kind of sock wearers out there. Many you should ask how many days, what kind of dirt, or is it pint or ink? Sounds crazy doesn't it? So did your comment .
