Canadian Battery Company to Move Headquarters to Raleigh, N.C.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Feb. 10--A fast-growing battery distributor and manufacturer headed by James Risher, the former chief executive of Exide Corp., is shifting its headquarters from Canada to Raleigh.

On Wednesday, BlueStar Battery Systems International simultaneously announced the move to Raleigh and a management shake-up that included the appointment of Risher as chief executive officer. Risher, 57, has been chairman of BlueStar since May.

BlueStar, which is in the process of transforming itself into an e-commerce business, has 400 employees and generated $104.3 million in sales last fiscal year.

The publicly traded company generated 85 percent of its revenue from its battery distribution business last year. It sells automotive batteries and related products...
