Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News, February, 2000
Feb. 12--A day after Northwest Airlines announced a new fare aimed at business travelers, several other major airlines had begun to match the prices but mostly in selected markets.
Northwest on Thursday unveiled its "BizFlex" fares, which are 40 percent off the prices of unrestricted, full-fare coach tickets.
The new fares don't require a Saturday stay and must be bought 10 days in advance. They are good for travel in the United States and to Canada.
By Thursday night, TWA said it matched the fares across its system and US Airways said it did so in a number of markets.
Friday, United Airlines said it matched the fares for travel in and out of Northwest hub cities, which are Minneapolis, Detroit and Memphis.
