Microsoft to Unveil Visual Basic Update.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Feb. 15--In conjunction with its release this week of Windows 2000, Microsoft Corp. plans to unveil today a new version of Visual Basic, which the software giant promises will simplify the creation of applications for the Web.

Visual Basic tools can be used to build software applications for any operating system. Still, Microsoft said the upgraded version of the tool kit is part of its grand strategy to create next-generation Internet applications, services and products based on its new operating system, Windows 2000.

On Thursday, Microsoft will launch Windows 2000, the latest version of Windows operating system for businesses, with a keynote address by Bill Gates, Microsoft's chairman and chief software architect, in San Francisco.
