DaimlerChrysler Plans Auto-Parts Distribution Center in Lathrop, Calif.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Feb. 16--Auto giant DaimlerChrysler AG will spend an estimated $17 million to construct an auto-parts distribution center in Lathrop's Crossroads Industrial Park this year.

The warehouse, at approximately 430,770 square feet, will employ about 225 workers. It will be located at Harlan Road and Nestle Way, across the street from Nestle's regional distribution center. About 1,600 square feet of the warehouse space will be devoted to offices.

Company representatives at DaimlerChrysler's Auburn Hills, Mich., headquarters could not be reached for comment Tuesday. However, Mike Locke, executive director of the San Joaquin Partnership, a nonprofit business development group, confirmed the details of DaimlerChrysler's move.
