Feb. 17--Citing competitive pressures, Northwest Airlines said Wednesday it rescinded its new fares aimed at business travelers from some markets.

Last week, Northwest unveiled its "BizFlex" fares, which are 40 percent off the cost of a full coach ticket that has no restrictions.

The "BizFlex" fares, which are for travel in the United States and to Canada, must be bought 10 days in advance but don't require a Saturday night stay as other cheaper fares do.

Industry watchers said business travelers would find the fares attractive, while stock analysts were divided on whether the new prices would lead to more or less revenues for Northwest, which had predicted it would bring in $50 million more a year.
