Dallas Hospitals Encourage Workers to Switch Jobs within the Industry.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Feb. 27--Baylor University Medical Center officials wouldn't mind if some of their employees took another career path.

The Dallas hospital even held a career fair last week that was designed to help its workers learn about alternative jobs -- at Baylor.

The hospital wants some of its workers to get interested in health-care jobs that it's having trouble filling, such as radiology or pharmacy technology. So last week's fair included demonstrations of the light boxes that radiologists use to read X-rays.

Recruiting current employees for other health-care jobs is just another tactic that area hospitals are using to find workers in today's tight labor market, Baylor officials said. A related strategy encourages workers to tell friends and family...
