Cable TV Firm Comcast May Open Systems to Internet Service Providers.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Mar. 2--Comcast Corp. will likely follow the lead of America Online Inc. and Time Warner Inc. and open up its high-speed cable TV systems to a variety of Internet service providers, but not before 2002, a company official said Wednesday.
Steve Burke, president of Comcast Cable, said the company's exclusive contract with @Home as its Internet access provider for cable modem customers expires in two years.
"When it expires, we'll sit down and negotiate with other ISPs [Internet service providers]," he said. "There are some technical limitations. You can't have 100 [Internet service providers]."
