Mar. 10--JEFF BEZOS AND THE AMAZON PATENT BATTLE: Jeff Bezos, founder and chief executive of Amazon.com -- a company under fire for the way it has used the patent system -- now says the system is broken. Better yet, he's offering his considerable influence to help fix it.
But he's not backing down from his insistence that Amazon, the Web mega-merchant, has done nothing wrong.
Many will continue to disagree, as I do, with his stance on the fundamental propriety of Amazon's patent activities -- namely its recently awarded patents on so-called one-click shopping and associates programs, and the company's subsequent legal action against a competitor
But it's a heartening sign of the Internet's power, and of Bezos' management style, that this...
