Northern California Drivers Face Gas Prices Well Above National Average.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Mar. 15--Northern California gasoline prices have hit an all-time high, jumping nearly 25 percent in the past month, according to a California State Automobile Association survey released Tuesday.

The average price for self-serve, regular, unleaded gasoline in Northern California was $1.83; the national average was $1.54.

In Stockton, CSAA said the average price was $1.73 a gallon, along with Modesto the lowest average price of the 18 north-state cities surveyed. The highest: Eureka, at $2 a gallon.

A random survey of Stockton prices Tuesday indicated they already had climbed above those found by CSAA.
