Mar. 24--Quang X. Pham can now afford to give himself a salary.

The UCI graduate student won $5 million this week in an international business plan contest for university students, besting student teams from 230 schools -- including Harvard, MIT, the London Business School and the University of Tokyo.

The contest, the first of its kind sponsored by Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, a prestigious San Francisco venture capital firm, may one day pick up a prize for the most unlikely moniker: Hummer Winblad's February Madness "Nothin' but the (Inter) Net."

If the name seems weird -- Hummer originally dubbed the contest March Madness until the NCAA sent them a cease-and-desist letter -- the take-home is worth it. Pham receives $5 million in venture...
