TRW Subsidiary to Close Macon, Ga., Plant Due to Loss of Boeing Work.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Mar. 25--Aircraft component manufacturer Lucas Aerospace, now owned by TRW Aeronautical Systems, on Friday announced plans to close its embattled Macon plant. More than 300 workers will be laid off over the next year and a half, a company news release said.
The company blamed the January loss of its Boeing 737 contract as the reason for the closings.
"The loss of this major follow-on contract will reduce the business at the company's Macon facility by 75 percent, which is well below a sustaining level," the release stated.
The remaining employees who had survived the most-recent round of layoffs at the plant were notified of the planned closing by company officials Friday. According to TRW, the company will help employees find other jobs,...
