Judge Rules on Lawsuit by South Carolina Developer against U.S. Government.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Mar. 7--The federal government should pay $21.5 million to a former developer of Kiawah Island resort for reneging on an accounting break for savings and loans, a judge has ruled.
U.S. Court of Claims Judge Robert H. Hodges Jr., a South Carolina native, issued the order in Landmark Land Co.'s lawsuit against the United States.
He heard testimony in the case last fall, including in a conference room converted to a courtroom in Charleston.
The U.S. Department of Justice, which argued the government's case, hailed the ruling. Landmark had asked for $750 million.
