Bidder's Withdrawal Further Delays Lawrence, Kan., Bus Service's Start.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Mar. 8--Lawrence will be rebidding the $5 million management contract for its planned citywide bus service at the recommendation of the company originally given the job.
"MV Transportation does not believe it is in the City's best interests to continue to spend time, energy and money fighting the ongoing legal challenges posed by Laidlaw E" said Jon Monson, president of MV Transportation of Fairfield, Calif., in a fax received about 3 p.m. Tuesday at city hall.
The contract has been challenged by Laidlaw Transit Services of Overland Park, which has said there was a conflict of interest involving brothers who work for a city consultant, KA Associates, and MV Transportation.
The charges are being investigated by Federal Transit Administration...
