Wichita, Kan., Radio Station to Switch Frequencies.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Mar. 11--Wichita's smooth jazz radio station, 105.3 the Oasis, is not going off the air. But the station is moving to a new frequency.

The Oasis will switch to a different frequency within the next two weeks to accommodate a new country music station, which will occupy the bandwidth at 105.3 FM.

"The Oasis is going to remain in Wichita," says Nancy Johnson, program director of the Oasis. She says the station's KWSJ call letters, smooth jazz format, disc jockeys and promotion of smooth jazz concerts will not change with the move.

A report on a local television news program Wednesday night apparently misled many listeners to believe the Oasis was going off the air permanently, leaving Wichita without a contemporary jazz radio station.
