Apr. 3--AMAZON.COM PLOTS NEXT CHAPTER: In the six years since he founded Amazon.com, Chief Executive Jeff Bezos has presided over the company's metamorphosis from an online bookseller to an Internet mega-mart selling everything from television sets to toilet seats. Over the past two years, Amazon has expanded into a wide range of product categories, launched an online auction site and opened up a virtual mall for small businesses that it has helped set up online. Bezos recently sat down with Mercury News Staff Writer Joelle Tessler to discuss his company's explosive growth. This is an edited transcript of that conversation.
