Continental, Delta Seek Approval for Houston-Colombia Route.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Apr. 8--Continental Airlines has applied to federal regulators to start a daily flight between Houston and Cali, Colombia.

Delta Air Lines has also asked for a flight under a new aviation agreement between the United States and Colombia -- but for service between Atlanta and Bogota.

The route involves one daily flight seven days a week. Although regulators could award, say, four days a week to one airline and three to another, they could also award all seven days to one airline and none to the other.

Continental already flies to Bogota from its Houston and Newark, N.J., hubs, while Delta doesn't serve Colombia.

Continental is proposing service to Cali because of an unmet market need, said spokesman David Messing.
