Sunbury, Pa.-Based Supermarket Chain to Sell Food-Service Operation.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Apr. 8--Weis Markets Inc. said Friday that it plans to sell its institutional food-service division to Reinhart FoodService, a privately held company based in LaCrosse, Wis.

The deal is part of an effort to increase shareholder value at the Sunbury-based supermarket chain. The sale price of the division, Weis Food Service, was not disclosed.

Weis Food Service employs about 300 people, most of them in the Sunbury area. The division serves restaurants, hospitals and colleges in eastern Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey.

Reinhart intends to continue operating the division in Sunbury and will retain the employees, according to Weis President Norman S. Rich.
