Apr. 12--If you're going up against a corporate Goliath like Coca-Cola Co., some observers say Willie Gary might be a guy you'd want at your side.

The flamboyant Florida lawyer rose from migrant farm worker's son to multimillionaire by winning civil verdicts of up to $500 million against large companies on behalf of accident victims, patients and small businesses.

Gary, 52, is described as a crack litigator who uses the lilting delivery and simple, parablelike phrases of a country preacher to make his points. He's expected to rely on those techniques in representing several of the plaintiffs in the racial discrimination case against Coca-Cola Co.

He won his first personal injury case in 1975, a year after he started his firm in Stuart, Fla....
