Aberdeen, S.D.-Area School Board Tosses Out Merit-Pay Program.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Apr. 15--The Webster school board and the Webster Education Association have jointly agreed to scrap the district's pilot merit-pay program at the end of the school year and develop an alternative.
"Both sides realized this is not going to work," Scott Allen said Friday. He heads the Aberdeen regional office of the South Dakota Education Association, which represents teachers.
The state Department of Labor ruled this winter that dumping the plan was not an unfair labor practice. WEA had until this week to appeal that decision. It did not, since the local board and teachers decided to regroup on the issue, Allen said.
