Lucent Technologies Gets Brand-Name Chief Executive.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)
Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News, April, 2000 by Ward, John T.
Apr. 25--The financial executive credited with streamlining ramshackle bookkeeping systems at aerospace giant Boeing Co. is about to land at Lucent Technologies.
Lucent announced yesterday that it had hired Deborah C. Hopkins from the
Seattle aircraft maker as its new chief financial officer.
The move is effective immediately, though Hopkins, 45, was still at Boeing yesterday, fielding phone calls at a desk on which airplane models share space with a copy of a book titled "Building Strong Brands."
"I'm a sales and marketing person at heart," said Hopkins, who worked as a teenage salesperson and model at a Saks Fifth Avenue store in Troy, Mich. "I'm a great brand believer, and certainly I think Lucent is a phenomenal brand."
