Elma, N.Y., Aerospace Company Moog Inc. Posts 4.4 Percent Gain in Earnings.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Apr. 25--Despite a general slump in the commercial aircraft market, local aerospace company Moog Inc. reported a 4.4 percent increase in its second-quarter earnings.

Moog reported a second-quarter profit Monday of $6.3 million, or 70 cents per share, compared to $6 million, or 66 cents per share, in the prior year's quarter. Overall, sales for the quarter totaled $161 million, down slightly from $162 million a year earlier.

Robert Brady, Moog chairman and CEO, credited the Elma company's "balanced portfolio" with giving the company its 23rd consecutive quarter of improved earnings.
