University of California at Berkeley to Sponsor Clinic on Internet Law.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Apr. 24--BERKELEY, Calif.--A new law clinic at UC Berkeley, slated to open by fall or next spring, is being touted as the first of its kind to take on the vast and murky legal seas of cyberspace.

The Samuelson Law, Technology and Public Policy Clinic will focus on Internet privacy laws, free speech, encryption and censorship.

"(The clinic) is a place where lawsuits can be brought when bad things happen to people in cyberspace," said Pamela Samuelson, for whom the clinic is named.

Samuelson, co-director for the Boalt Hall Center for Law & Technology and an expert on cyberlaw and intellectual property, spoke Monday at a press conference on the clinic's opening.

"For a lot of ordinary people, there's no place to go," Samuelson said....
