Farmington Hills, Mich.-Based Health Care Firm Wants to Sell Defunct Hospital.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

May 3--Mercy Health Services officials said Tuesday that they have decided to donate the now defunct Mercy Hospital campus in Detroit to an owner who would turn it into a multipurpose community center to open by year's end.
The Farmington Hills-based health system is seeking proposals for the campus, which includes a five-story main hospital building and four other facilities on Conner Avenue near I-94. Mercy hopes to select an owner this summer.
The health system also is to finance and operate two programs. Mercy will open a 12,000-square-foot primary care facility for uninsured adults in the hospital's old emergency room.
The clinic will receive $2 million annually from the health system.
