May 3--IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN when we award Downtown's coveted Simon C. Fireman Medal for Chutzpah, named for our local-boy-turned-felon who last year published an incredibly whiny book blaming his secretary for all those illegal checks to the Republicans back in 1996.
Our new whiny winner: Fran Joyce, the executive director of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority who a few months back went to his boss -- the same one he lambasted publicly for trying to "muzzle" him -- and asked for a raise. Not a small one mind you, but a big one.
To make his case, Joyce compiled a list of the executive directors of other convention centers and the heads of the state's other authorities. The top guy at New Orleans' convention center makes $198,953;...
