AT&T Wireless Stock's Decline Baffles Investors.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

May 12--Lila Robinson, like many AT&T employees, is a bit surprised in the performance of the AT&T Wireless Group stock since it went public last month.
"Anybody would be disappointed if a stock goes down in price," said the 50-year-old administrative assistant at AT&T in Basking Ridge, who spent about two months' salary to invest in the public offering only to see the shares close yesterday at 29. That's below the stock's 291/2 opening price.
Robinson isn't alone. In just a couple of weeks, AT&T Wireless, which trades as a tracking stock under the AWE ticker, has come to symbolize just how the market for IPOs has changed since technology stocks began to fall in March.
