May 8--WASHINGTON, Ill.--McKenzie River Pottery is a shop off the square in Washington stocked with works by graduate art students. They learn the techniques of their art in school but learn the business of their art in the shop.

Stephen H. Knight, candidate for a master's of fine arts degree at Bradley University, said, "Selling is an awful word in many graduate schools. It's not covered at all. A lot of people think serious artists and selling are not compatible."

Knight, an instructor at Lakeview Museum and Illinois Central College, is a painter and potter.
