Burlington, Mass.-Based Internet Telephony Firm Set for Deal with AT&T.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

May 15--Burlington-based iBasis, which is battling doggedly with ITXC of California to be the world's biggest carrier of phone-to-phone calls over the Internet, is expected to announce today a major new partnership with AT&T and British Telecom.

Under a deal that could become worth millions of dollars annually to iBasis, the AT&T-BT global joint venture called Concert has agreed to interconnect its network with iBasis and share international voice and fax traffic.

iBasis already carries voice and fax traffic for 70 carriers through carefully directed and monitored data packets shipped over the Internet, including 11 of the 12 top US international carriers.
