United Airlines Plans No Regional Jets at Pueblo, Colo., Airport.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

May 18--Regional jets would be just what Pueblo needs to rebuild passenger traffic at its airport, but there's little chance of seeing anything other than small turboprop planes here.

That's what United Airlines told airport manager Don Saling when he put the question to the company recently. Saling said jets, even on a short hop to Denver, would give a major boost to the popularity of the airport.

United was speaking on behalf of the smaller companies that provide its United Express service. Saling said, "Because of the initial capital expense, what we've been told by United Airlines is that we're probably stuck with the turboprops."
